Tom Oberheim Joins Bob Moog Foundation's Captains of Industry on His Birthday Today

via The Bob Moog Foundation

On his birthday, we welcome Tom Oberheim to a special group of supporters

Pinch us, we're dreaming! Visionary inventor, innovator, and iconic synth designer Tom Oberheim, founder of three electronics companies including Oberheim Electronics, Inc. and the man behind the new OB-X8 analog synth, has joined our Captains of Industry program.

Backers like Tom don't just celebrate birthdays and create world-class synths, sequencers, and drum machines. They help us grow scientific and technical literacy today, while preserving the electronic instruments of the past.

Our Captains of Industry program lets supporters like Tom and others empower our efforts on a larger scale, with a three-year pledge of $5000 USD or more annually.

Our supporters help us shape a better future.

With Tom Oberheim on our side, we can do even more to increase scientific literacy and grow technological understanding, introducing young people by the tens of thousands to what inspired Tom, Bob, and all our work: the science of sound, and how the engineering principles that inspired both Tom and Bob can be an experiential part of learning to think and act critically.

L-R, a few greats: Dave Smith, Bob Moog, Ikutaro Kakehashi, and Tom Oberheim

There are still more seats at the table for those who want to join the three-year mission that is our Captains of Industry program.

'We are deeply honored to have Tom Oberheim join fellow synthesizer and music technology luminaries Ernst Nathorst-Böös, Marcus Ryle, 8Dio, Gerhard Behles, Chris Halaby, Daniel Haver, iZotope, Christoph Kemper, Ray Kurzweil, Spectrasonics, Larry Thomas, Universal Audio, John Worthington, and Hans Zimmer/Remote Control Productions in supporting the important work of the Bob Moog Foundation through our Captains of Industry campaign. Their support inspires us, bolsters our projects, and sustains our work during an unpredictable time.'
- Michelle Moog-Koussa, Bob Moog Foundation Executive Director
Welcome to the Captains of Industry, Tom. We're glad to have you, and we can't wait to put your support to work. Happy birthday!"

XILS-lab Updates XILS 4 Matrix Modular Soft Synth to v1.5

The press release:

XILS-lab updates ultimate matrix modular soft synth with welcomed fanciful features added to XILS 4 v1.5

“My favourite analogue synth is probably the VCS3, so when I heard that a company was releasing a software version I was quite cautious; today, XILS 4 is one of my favourite plug-ins! Working with it gives me the same excitement as the original hardware, plus there are lots of extra features, since it is basically two VCS3s with an interconnected sequencer. The sound is great, and it is one of the best soft synths on the market for experimenting with new ways of creating sounds!”

- Jean-Michel Jarre (award-winning composer, performer, and record producer), April 2015

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: audio software company XILS-lab is proud to announce availability of XILS 4 v1.5 — a major update to its self-styled ultimate matrix modular soft synth, effectively emulating a conceptual ‘blend’ of the legendary VCS4, a ‘dual VCS3’ analogue matrix modular synthesizer prototyped by British trailblazing entity EMS (Electronic Music Studios) back in 1969 but never commercially released, with pioneering British synthesist Tim Blake’s so-called ‘Crystal Machine’ (comprising two EMS Synthi AKS analogue matrix modular synthesizers with hard sync between their oscillators, one connected to the keyboard and the other connected to the sequencer) — with welcomed additional fanciful features including a powerful preset manager in a single window and new effects with semi-modular routing, as of November 30…

Dream Suite “Manifestation Manual”

Dream Suite (pt 1) “Manifestation Manual” from Bryan Noll on Vimeo.

Dream Suite (pt 2) “Music For 18 Modules” from Bryan Noll on Vimeo.

“Manifestation Manual”

Dream Suite: Stages 1-2 (Dream / Will)

Performed live on a modular synthesizer.

Mixed in Ableton Live.

COMPOSITION NOTES

==================

Dream Suite: A Manifestation Manual

• Dream
• Will
• Expand
• Flourish
• Release

In the first two movements, we dream the dream then use our will to burn all obstacles on the path to manifestation. We complete the second stage exhausted, only to reemerge from the ashes in the third stage, reborn and ready to expand. The dream seed fuels our expansion as we flourish and learn how to let go.

Andromeda A6 - Fun With Envelopes Pt. 1

YouTube Uploaded by TheZombieHolocaust on Jul 10, 2011

"Just playing through some patches and using the envelopes in a few different ways to affect the sound"

"It's ambient music from a live recording I did , no overdub. The audio is from the LR mains into Audiobox Presonus into Logic. I did some track automation panning/volume and a tiny bit of phasing at the very end. I also added compression via Logic"

Steckmatrix "Studio Synthesizer" Modular Format Analog Synthesizer

via this auction

Googlish translation (note some modules are faulty):
"The construction with the Ghielmetti matrix is similar to the EMS Synthi A / Vostok

The "Studio Synthesizer" (his name in the documents) was built in the early 1980s for a music institute. His then the price was a good 5-digit range. It was built based on the format module system, which were, according to the designer and builder of some of the modules nor modified. This is now due to space and light overhaul of need (and lack of detailed electronic and time budget) as possible to a collector, analog synth lovers and / or music-electronics hobbyist sale. (... Ok to the highest bidder ...)

It consists of three modules ("Keyboard / Matrix", "Links: VCOs / LFOs, Right: VCF / ADSRs" and a solid metal frame with castors.

He is very elegant in the different parts and dismantled the frame, the modules and the frame are visible to Langen "handle" screws (left of the big picture) is connected.

Also inside the synthesizer is very loving, clean and professionally built.

The (most likely) complete the design, modification and construction documents are supplied in a DIN A4 Ordener. For example, there are even invoices, data sheets used chips, many clean-hands design drawings and even films for the exposure time while platinum production.
